Jan Hillcar lived to be 80 years old. She wanted a little more time to watch the grandkids grow up, but is now enjoying God’s amazing grace and as a family we give thanks.
She was born, raised, and educated in LaConner, WA. Jan was a proud alum, attending many of the alumni dinners over the years. She also had fond memories of her childhood. Especially riding horses and spending time with her Nana.
She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Bellingham. She was an “old school” nurse. Her pride was in her bedside manner and care. Her biggest nursing accomplishment was her surgical mission trips that took her all over the globe. She traveled to Ecuador, Honduras, Laos, Thailand, China, and the Philippines to name a few.
Her direct patient care profoundly impacted the lives of many children. She helped correct hair lips, cleft palates, and other facial deformities. It was a calling that brought out the very best in her.
She lived 134 days after her diagnosis with myelodysplastic syndrome. She died at home with her family at her side.
Jan will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband Jack; her children Christi, John, and Annie; her grandkids Tyler, Maddie, Holly, Ellie, and Teagan.
