His Life:

Jesse Ira Moore was born August 20, 1931 in Mora, Washington in a dirt floor, Native American midwife cabin, on the farm his parents helped to work. He passed March 19, 2025 at the Avamere care and rehabilitation facility in Coos Bay, Oregon. From his humble beginnings, Jesse rose to achieve remarkable things in his amazing life.

During his lifetime, Jesse graduated from Forks High school, worked in logging camps, shake mills, served honorably in the United States Airforce during the Korean War, Graduated from Western Washington University, taught high school at Waitsburg High School, Stanfield High School, Clatskanie High School, Gold Beach High School, and finally Marshfield High School. During this time, Jesse married twice, and fathered 6 children, who he loved.

While teaching High School and being a devoted father and husband, Jesse also found time to become a commercial salmon fisherman, coach football, coach basketball, coach wrestling, coach track and field, and officiate basketball.

As a teacher, Jesse found his calling in physical education. Ultimately creating the modern weight training program still in use at Marshfield High school. He retired from teaching in 1989 but continued to coach until 1991.

As a physical education teacher, Jesse found a way to inspire and encourage young adults to set goals, challenge themselves, and achieve more than they thought they could. Earning from his students their respect, and affection.

After his career in education and coaching, Jesse briefly went back to work in a shake mill, worked as a janitor, was a range marshal and cart chauffeur at the Bandon Dunes Golf course, before finally settling into actual retirement.

Throughout his life, Jesse enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, crabbing, and sharing those passions with his family and friends.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Moore, his mother Avis Maupin, his brother Charles Moore, his sisters Marion Arnold and Helen Johnston, his daughter Patricia Moore and his wife and the Love of his life Audrey Moore.

He is survived by his loving family, daughters Terri Crisman, Linda Breithaupt, Dacia Frizielle, his sons Scott and Gary Moore, his grandchildren children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Jesse’s life and legacy lives on in his family, friends, and thousands of students whose lives he influenced. His end was as it was supposed to be. His is a story to be envied, admired and if possible emulated. He loved, lived and finished well.

Internment was March 27 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
