John N. Prager, former resident of Forks, passed away in Vancouver, WA on November 18, 2017. John was born in Vancouver, WA to Kenneth and Veronica Prager. He was the eldest of eight children and graduated high school at Hudson’s Bay High School in 1967. John attended Western Washington University from 1969-1972 studying Sociology and Anthropology.
He moved to LaPush in 1975 where he met his wife of 42 yrs, Peggy (Beck) Prager and worked for the Quileute Tribe Fisheries as a researcher of traditional territories protecting tribal fishing rights (Boldt Decision). He then worked at Ulin’s Auto Parts from 1978-89. John’s love for the Olympic Peninsula included fishing, camping, exploring and happily serving the needs of the Forks community in all things auto parts!
John and Peggy moved back to Vancouver in 1989 John was taken from us too soon and will be greatly missed. His laughter was infectious, his love for knowledge and sharing it was his great joy, his generosity and kindness was felt by every life he touched. John’s most endearing quality was his love and devotion to his wife Peggy and his family as well as being the family chef.
He leaves behind wife Peggy Prager, children Becky Brewer (Marshall), Rachel Beck, Kevin (Vicky) Hasely. Five grandchildren, Savannah, Brandon, and Nylah Brewer, Ethan and Evan Hasely, and many siblings.
The Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2206 NW 99th St, Vancouver, WA 98665 with reception to follow.
