July 7, 1935 – December 20, 2018
Lotus Jean Newman passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 20, 2018, at the age of 83.
Lotus was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was born on July 7, 1935, in Joplin, Missouri. In 1948, at the age of 12, she moved to Forks with her father, Arthur Hamby, a coal miner, her mother, Edith Hamby, and five siblings.
On November 28, 1952, she married Edwin E. Huling. Together they had five children; Gary (Teri) Huling, Larry (Laura) Huling of Forks, Brenda Ringer, Joyce (David) Sharnbroich all of Port Angeles, and Sherri (Phil) Lepper of Sequim. They later divorced.
Spending time with family is what she loved most, whale watching with her sisters or beachcombing with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life; she loved all and you knew it.
Lotus is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene Hamby, Charles Hamby; sisters, Leona Button and Leta Rondeau; nephews, Ed Rondeau and
Lonnie Hamby. She is survived by her five children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; sister, Reta O’Keefe; and sister-in-law, Ginnie Hamby.
Special thank you to Assured Hospice of Clallam County, for their care and support for our mother and kindness to her family. At our mother’s wishes, there are no services.
