March 16, 1940 – August 14, 2017
Peggy was as southern as grits and cornbread. Even though she lived here in Washington for 40 years, her southern drawl never
faded. Peggy Jean Wright began her life on March 16, 1940, in Hazelwood, North Carolina. She grew up with two sisters, Gay and Ann, and a brother, Bud. Her sisters describe her as the smart and pretty one.
They remember getting into trouble riding their wagons on the golf greens, running barefoot playing kick the can and spending the night on the mountain eating watermelon and marshmallows.
Soon after high school Peggy married. She became a mother Oct. 15, 1959, when Judith Ann was born. She then started her medical career as a lab technician, then x-ray tech. In her late twenties, Wayne swept her off her feet and they married December 1967. Clinton Wayne and Steve Wendell arrived in 1968 and 1969.
Peggy went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse in her early thirties. In 1977 Peggy and her family moved to Forks. She continued to work as an LPN with Home Health Care until her retirement.
Peggy made many lifelong friends that she considered family. Their families enjoyed spending time together. Her friends remember being in TOPS- weight loss group. Which was more about girl time and eating chocolate eclairs, than losing weight. Peggy enjoyed family dinners of ham, green beans, and biscuits, especially at Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas. She loved putting up her Christmas village which, over the years has become more of a metropolis than a village.
Many remember receiving a Happy Birthday southern serenade on their Birthday from Peggy. These moments and many more memories will be shared and cherished as we remember Peggy and keep her alive in our hearts. Peggy was devoted to her church, a loyal friend and cherished her family.
She leaves behind two sisters, Gay and Ann, brother Bud, daughter Judy, sons Clint and Steve. Grandchildren Yvonne, Quentin,
Zachary, Tyler and Kadie. Great Grandchildren Corbin, Joseph, Alaina, Hayden, Mercedes, Radley and Ava.
We lost Peggy on Aug. 14 when the Lord called her home. She will be missed.
