Artensie “Ruth” Kettel was born February 26, 1948, in Gladewater, Smith County, Texas to William and Jewel (Smith) (Lemoms) Lemons. Ruth’s mother died when Ruth was just two years old, and she later went to live with others. She eventually lived in Seattle where she attended Garfield High School, class of 1966. While in high school she was a teacher’s assistant and was active in gymnastics.
Ruth eventually found her way to Forks where she has lived for about the past fifty years. She worked as a flagger and as a custodian at school, a job she loved.
Many will remember Ruth’s love of football and her dislike for the Seahawks. She also was a Tom Brady fan and a 49ers fan. So it was a real dilemma for her when former Seahawk Richard Sherman was traded to the 49ers.
Ruth will also be remembered for her celebratory rides through Forks neighborhoods when the Seahawks lost, sometimes to the dismay of those that had recorded the game or sometimes to those who were sleeping!
Ruth is survived by her children Marte Lemons and Shila (Mitch) Miranda; granddaughters Johnnie Maya Fuller and Jade Fuller and grandsons Titan Miranda and Max Miranda. Ruth is also survived by her husband.
Ruth passed away on May 31, 2022, at Forks Community Hospital from dementia-related causes. Drennan Ford, Port Angeles, was in charge of cremation.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
