July 9, 1944-August 20, 2016
Born to Robert and Phyllis Wheeler in Long Beach, California as a “service brat” Sherrill passed away at her home on the Sol Duc River after nearly two years battling cancer.
In 1953 the Wheelers moved to Port Angeles following four years living in Hawaii. Sherrill graduated from high school there in 1962 and entered Peninsula College that fall when it was still on the P.A. High campus. It was here she met Stanley Fouts, and on December 15, 1966, they married.
They lived mostly in Forks and raised four children, Lenora, Kevin, Andy, and Danial.
Along with her children, she is survived by her mother, sister Janice Lepper (Phil), her husband, and nine grandchildren; Kyle, Rachel, Braxton, Carter, Draven, NeVaya, Xvier, Lane, and Clark. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother Bradly.
In teen years Sherrill picked strawberries, hayed and did other farm jobs in Sequim After attending college in Seattle she worked for Ma Bell as a telephone operator.
In 1994 she became manager of the Forks Timber Museum, retiring in 2013.
She was a longtime member of the Forks Piecemakers Quilt Club and the Bogachiel Garden Club.
Many thanks for the thoughtful care provided Sherrill by the Forks Community Hospital, notably Jim Rondeau and the hospital nursing staff. A special thanks to Bogachiel Clinic and Dr. Dickson. Also, thank you to the staff and nurse care of the Sequim Cancer Center, and to Assured Hospice, and Drennan and Ford.
Without the valuable assistance of her daughter, Sherrill’s sister Janice, and best friend Laurel Burtness it would have been difficult as best for Sherrill to pass away at her own home.
Sherrill’s love of her family, friends, and life will be celebrated on June 3, from 1-4 p.m. at her home, 580 Steelhead Ave.
