The Forks Old-Fashioned Horseshoes Tournament was held at 9 a.m. Saturday July 28, at Tillicum Park in Forks.
There were 46 players this year throwing shoes on a pleasant overcast day.
The promised rain never showed up to the delight spectators and players alike. In Forks we don’t count a light drizzle as “rain.”
The winners bracket had a lot of highly competitive matches which saw Hoquim’s Pete Rabey and Joel Schaben emerge unscathed awaiting the final match.
In the losers bracket the defending champions Troy Pearce and Wade McCoy had to win three matches in a row to win the losers bracket and set up a rematch with Rabey and Schaben in the final.
In the championship Pearce and McCoy gave Rabey and Schaben their first loss forcing the “if needed” rematch for the title.
The title game was the third time those two teams had played each other that day and it was yet another close game with Rabey and Schaben coming out on top winning their first title and the top prize of $200.
Many thanks to the City of Forks maintenance staff for prepping the pits as well as Forks Outfitters for donating supplies and Budweiser for donating T-shirts and door prizes.
Final Results:
1st: Pete Rabey and Joel Schaben
2nd: Troy Pearce and Wade McCoy
3rd: Scott McNutt and Bryson King
4th: Larry Woody and Jeff Alborn
