2023 ASBR STIHL American Sprint Boat Pro Racing Series, Race #1

PORT ANGELES, WA The American Sprint Boat Racing Association, ASBR, is proud to announce the first race of 2023 Pro Racing Series. ASBR has partnered with STIHL this season to bring this adrenaline-pumping, action-filled sport to the west coast. ASBR Officials made the decision to split the race into 2-day events due to the rapidly growing number of teams and new sprint boats coming into the Association. The first race begins on Saturday at 10:00 am, July 29 with Qualifications, and ends on Sunday, July 30 with the Finals. Competitors will be arriving in Port Angeles this week to compete for cash and points toward the 2023 season championship.

ASBR welcomes many teams and racers, too many to welcome here, but here are a few contenders. Renowned racer, Garrett Mitchell, aka Cleetus McFarland, makes another appearance for his second season. Last year he impressed peer, seasoned racers, as he and his Navigator, Spencer Faggioni were the winners of ASBR Race 2, Modified Class in their first year of sprint boat racing. Spencer, aka Spicy Spence, is also a talented singer, and will be singing the National Anthem at the opening ceremonies before the 10:00am races Saturday and Sunday. Cleetus and Spicy Spence are back to the races this year to compete in their new, custom jet sprint boat.

ASBR has many male and female teams, and married couple racing team Checkmate #55 are one of them. This team consists of husband-and-wife team, Frank and Kelly Toftemark, who are returning to the sport after a hiatus, and are ones to watch, as they ran the track fast, tight, and hard at ASBR’s Test & Tune Event in June. We are also proud to announce our first mother/daughter team, Scarlett Taylor, Driver and Sofia Taylor, Navigator. This female duo from Snohomish is racing sprint boat Full Tilt #03B, in the Modified Class this year.

Another promising contender to keep your eye on is Leighton Lillie, of Preventing Insanity #27, and his Navigator, Cody Holzen. Leighton comes to the jet sprint boat racing world as an accomplished racer and professional athlete from Lewiston, Idaho. He started out in motor cross at an early age and won the AMA Thunder cross Series in his teens. His impressive career highlights also include the 2016 World Jet Boat Championship in the FX Class, a race that spans three rivers, 7 days and six hundred miles. He is a 2-time winner in the Winter Para X Games Bronze Medals in Snowbike in 2018 and 2019, and in 2022 Leighton won the AMA National Championship Snowbike Series.

ASBR would like to give a huge shoutout to all the fans, followers, racers, navigators, crews, volunteers, and sponsors who travel near and far for the 2023 ASBR STIHL American Sprint Boat Pro Racing Series in Port Angeles, WA, and Ontario, OR.
