The Forks Boys summer league team went to Centralia on Sunday, June 12, and participated in a tournament at the brand new Northwest Sports Hub. The tournament consisted of many league rivals including Aberdeen and Montesano. The Forks boys started the morning off with a 10 a.m. win vs. Pe Ell 55-46. They dropped the second game in the semi-finals to Toutle Lake before beating Napavine in the third-place game 55-44.
“This was the first competition that we have played in this summer. We did a lot of things well and learned a lot of things. Overall, the kids grew a little bit and we got to bring home a third-place trophy,” Coach Rick Gooding said.
The tournament was hosted by Centralia Community College Women’s Coach Caleb Sells and after the tournament Gooding said that he got an e-mail from Sells saying, “Thank you Rick — You’ve got a classy bunch of guys on your squad. Wish everyone handled themselves the way you guys did today. Thank you so much for coming down. Forks is in my constant contact list now!”
Gooding said, “That e-mail meant more to me than any game we played. Just to know the character of the kids that we have and that we are putting a good name to the town that we love and represent means a ton and our young athletes should take pride in that everywhere we go.”
Athletes that made the trip were Brandon Baar, Tristan Pisini, Jake Jacoby, Jeffrey Schumack, Cole Baysiner, Parker Browning, Carlos Tejano, Marky Adams and Cort Prose.
