While the big kids got to wrestle recently at state, some younger wrestlers also got in on some good action. Coach Tanner House recently shared some of the successes they had.
Jade Blair was a returning state placer placing 4th the previous year. This year she placed 3rd at 127 lbs girls grade 6th-8th. It was Easton House’s first year wrestling and he placed 3rd at 55 lbs U6 (under 6). He is 5 years old.
Wyatt Bechtold and Aiden House wrestled U10 63 lbs. Both boys did not place but wrestled extremely tough- according to Coach House. Wyatt is 9 years old and went 2-2 on the day winning 2 really tough matches and Aiden is 8 years old and won his first match of the day before falling just short in a heartbreaking loss in his 2nd match and another close loss to teammate Wyatt.
Levi Bechtold is 6 years old and wrestling U8 43 lbs. It was also his first year. He went 2-2 on the day but fell short of placing.
Julian Sanchez, age 9 wrestled 71 lbs and went 3-2 on the day in bracket with 39 other wrestlers from across the state.
Dominic Sanchez U12 82 lbs went 2-2 on the day as well. “Adrian Sanchez wrestled U16 at 152 lbs like a possessed beast,” said Coach House, earning a 6th place medal.
“Overall it was a great weekend the wrestling club ended up with 5 state placers,” Coach House shared.
House added that Kenny Daman placed 5th at U14 250 lbs and Emmanuel Hernandez 4th at 132 lbs U14.
Tanner House and Chad Bechtold are the coaches for the youth wrestling club. The wrestlers competed in the WSWA folk-style state wrestling tournament in February.
